Why does art matter?

So why does art matter? Why not just a disk with some images? I think that is a question a lot of people ask themselves. Most people who know me know that I love old pictures. Especially of family members who have passed or those who I never even got to meet. History for me is something very special. It is where we come from and something that we are a part of. My great Aunt Joan lived an amazing life and was an amazing woman. A reporter during world war II from England who was one of the first people to go into Auschwitz after the allies won the war and tell of it's horror. A strong and beautiful woman who lived a long life and passed soon after I graduated High School. Today the thing that we have left of her besides memories is a portrait of her as a young woman by an artist for whom she had a romance with at the time. The way the artist captured her youth and beauty was amazing. This piece of art is what we have left of a great person and for me I couldn't be more thankful for it. It now lives with my sister Bridget or I would post a picture of it. 

 

As I evolve as a photographer and artist I realized that I wanted to do that for other people. I wanted to give them the things that they and their family will cherish for generations! The above photo is of my friends Lauren and her father Pat with a Signature edit. These two are very close and have been through a lot together. Maybe more so than most fathers and daughters so I wanted to do something special with this image and make it more than just a picture but rather a art piece for generations! This two page spread is in an album that they can now hand down for generations to come. So glad I got to be apart of their day!
